Product details
KBroVet (potassium bromide chewable tablets) is an antiepileptic medication indicated for the control of seizures associated with idiopathic epilepsy in dogs.
Note: KBroVet chewable tablets were conditionally approved (as KBroVet-CA1) for the control of seizures associated with idiopathic epilepsy in dogs. The FDA has now granted full approval, and the manufacturer is updating the product name (dropping the -CA1) and label to reflect the full approval. There are no changes to the formulation itself. During this transition, packaging may vary based on current manufacturer availability.

Usage
For more information, please refer to the full Prescribing Information provided in the manufacturer’s package insert or consult your veterinarian.
KBroVet Chewable Tablets should be given orally as directed by your veterinarian. Please consult your veterinarian before making any changes or discontinuing the prescribed dosing schedule.
If your pet’s seizure frequency increases, please notify your veterinarian as soon as possible.
Manufacturer Dosage and Administration:
The total recommended daily dosage range for oral administration is 25 - 68 mg/kg (11-31 mg/lb) of body weight. The dosage of KBroVet should be adjusted based on monitoring of clinical response of the individual patient. KBroVet may be dosed with or without food. Use of an initial loading dosage regimen may be considered on an individual patient basis, balancing the time required to achieve a therapeutic response while minimizing side effects. Tablets should not be split.
Missed doses
If a dose is missed: Administer the dose as soon as possible. If it is almost time for the next dose, skip the missed dose and continue with the regular schedule. Do not give more medication than prescribed or two doses at once.
If you have questions about your pet’s prescribed dosing schedule (e.g., timing, interval), please consult your veterinarian.
Storage
Store in a cool, dry place at a controlled room temperature (68-77°F). Keep this and all medications in a secure location out of the reach of children and animals. Keep the bottle tightly closed when not in use.
Exposure to extreme temperatures, light, or moisture can affect the integrity and effectiveness of medications. Always store medications properly (e.g., away from the bathroom, kitchen sink, or other damp places).
Side effects
The most commonly reported side effects of this medication are increased appetite, weight gain, vomiting, sedation, ataxia (uncoordinated movement), and weakness. Other reported side effects include increased thirst/urination and lethargy.
Certain neurologic signs (sedation, ataxia) may diminish over time. These effects are generally associated with animals taking multiple anticonvulsant medications or with high bromide concentrations in the body.
Contact your veterinarian immediately if your pet experiences excessive sedation, behavioral changes (e.g., aggression), muscle weakness, excessive drooling, rash, or any signs of pancreatitis (e.g., severe/continuous vomiting or diarrhea, abdominal pain, extreme lethargy/weakness).
Please consult your veterinarian if your pet experiences any side effects, including those listed above, or if you notice anything unusual.
Precautions
Before using this product, please review the product label and full Prescribing Information for important safety information, including any relevant warnings and precautions.
For use in dogs only. Not for use in cats.
Not for human use. Keep out of reach of children and animals to prevent accidental ingestion or overdose. Contact a physician in case of accidental ingestion by humans.
Careful monitoring is important in dogs that have a condition that may cause difficulty maintaining electrolyte balance. Dogs with decreased renal function (kidney disease) may be predisposed to bromide toxicosis.
The safe use of KBroVet has not been evaluated in dogs that are intended for breeding, or that are pregnant or lactating. Reproductive effects of potassium bromide have been reported in other species. The safe use of potassium bromide in neonates and puppies has not been established. Discuss the risks of using this medication with your veterinarian prior to use if your pet is in one of these groups.
Do not administer this medication to animals with a known or suspected allergy/hypersensitivity to it (bromide) or any of its ingredients. Allergic reactions to medications may occur. Please inform Vetsource and your veterinarian if your pet has any known sensitivities or allergies, especially to medications and supplements.
If your pet displays symptoms of an allergic reaction, discontinue therapy and call your veterinarian immediately or seek emergency veterinary attention. Symptoms may include (but are not limited to): swollen lips, tongue, face, or airways; difficulty breathing; agitation; profuse salivation; and widespread hives or itching.
Drug and food interactions
Dogs receiving potassium bromide should be carefully monitored when changing diets, administering chloride-containing IV fluids, and administering concurrent medications. Consult your veterinarian before changing your pet’s diet.
