Percorten®-V Injectable Suspension is effective in replacing the mineralocorticoid deficit in dogs suffering from primary hypoadrenocorticism (Canine Addison's Disease).

  • First FDA approved treatment for canine Addison's disease
  • Mineralocorticoid used to treat conditions in which the body does not produce enough of its own steroids
  • Helps prevent electrolyte disturbances, shock, and build up of toxic substances in the blood in animals with hypoadrenocorticism
  • Increases the rate of absorption of sodium and water by the kidneys which helps maintain blood pressure

Desoxycorticosterone pivalate
Inactive Ingredients
Methylcellulose, sodium carboxymethylcellulose, polysorbate 80, sodium chloride, thimerosal. 
Percorten®-V should be injected as directed by your veterinarian. Shake the vial thoroughly to mix the microcrystals with the suspension vehicle. Typically this medication may be given intramuscularly or subcutaneously and dosage varies by patient. Use aseptic techniques when withdrawing each dose to decrease the possibility of post-injection bacterial infections. Adequately clean and disinfect the stopper prior to entry with a sterile needle and syringe. Injectable medications require needles and syringes. Those items are purchased separately. Please ask your veterinarian for a recommendation for the correct needle/syringe sizes for your pet. Use only sterile needles/syringes and use each needle/syringe only once. Dispose the needle/syringe immediately in a proper sharps disposal container. Sharps containers are sold separately.
Use vial within 4 months of first puncture.
Missed Doses
Give the dose as soon as possible. If it is almost time for the next dose, skip the missed dose, and continue with the regular schedule. Do not give 2 doses at once.
Side Effects
Possible side effects may include excessive thirst, excessive appetite, excessive urination, dull or dry haircoat, weight gain, panting, vomiting, diarrhea, stomach upset, muscle wasting, depression, lethargy, aggressiveness. If symptoms persist or become troublesome, contact your veterinarian. Since this medication suppresses your pet’s immune system, there may be an increase in risk of infection. Contact your veterinarian if your pet shows any signs of fever.
Other side effects may occur. If you notice anything unusual, contact your veterinarian. The safety of this medication has not been evaluated in pregnant, breeding, or nursing animals. Do not discontinue this medication abruptly without consulting your veterinarian.

Drug & Food Interactions
The following drugs can potentially interact with desoxycorticosterone pivalate: aspirin, chlorothiazide, digoxin, furosemide, hydrochlorothiazide, insulin, and spironolactone. Contact your veterinarian if your pet experiences any unusual reactions when different medications are given together.
Make sure to tell your veterinarian what other medication or supplements you are giving your pet. Quite often your veterinarian may prescribe two different medications, even if a drug interaction may be anticipated. In this case, your veterinarian may vary the dose and/or monitor your pet more closely. 
The safety of this medication has not been evaluated in pregnant, breeding, or nursing animals. Do not discontinue this medication abruptly without consulting your veterinarian.
Allergic reactions to medications may occur. Be sure to inform VetSource and your veterinarian if your pet has any known drug sensitivities or allergies. If your pet displays symptoms of an allergic reaction, call your veterinarian immediately or go to a veterinary emergency clinic. Symptoms may include but are not limited to: swollen lips, tongue, face, airways; difficulty breathing; agitation; profuse salivation; vomiting; widespread hives and itching.

Store at 77°F in controlled room temperature, excursions permitted between 59°F to 86°F. Protect from freezing. Protect from light. Keep this medicine out of reach of children. Do not store this medicine in the bathroom, near the kitchen sink or in damp places. The medicine may break down if exposed to heat or moisture.
