Usage
Trifexis® should be given orally as directed by your veterinarian. This medication should be administered at monthly (every 30 day) intervals, year-round to guarantee protection from heartworms, fleas, and intestinal parasites in dogs. For dogs over 120 lbs, use the appropriate combination of these Tablets to ensure complete protection.
Remove only 1 tablet at a time from the foil-backed blister card and return the card to the box to protect from light.  Allowing the tablet to remain out of the foil pack for 15 to 60 minutes prior to administration, may reduce the strong odor associated with the medication.  Do not remove tablet from foil wrapper until you are ready to give it to your pet. Offer to the pet as a treat by hand or in a small amount of food. Make sure your dog eats the tablet along with food to ensure optimal efficacy. Make sure entire tablet is consumed.
To ensure heartworm prevention, observe your dog for one hour after administration. If vomiting occurs within an hour of administration, redose with another full dose.
Missed Doses
Give the dose as soon as you remember, unless it is time for the next dose.  Do not double dose.  If your pet has missed a dose please consult with your veterinarian.
Side Effects
Serious adverse reactions have been reported following concomitant extra-label use of ivermectin with spinosad alone, one of the components of Trifexis® chewable tablets. The most common adverse reactions reported are vomiting, depression/lethargy, itching, decreased appetite, and diarrhea. Puppies less than 14 weeks of age may experience a higher rate of vomiting. Like all medications, keep Trifexis® out of reach of children.
The following side effects have been reported with the use of  Trifexis®: vomiting, diarrhea, lethargy, and inappetance. If this occurs, notify your veterinarian.
Use with caution in dogs with a history of seizures.
Other side effects may occur. If you notice anything unusual, contact your veterinarian.
Drug & Food Interactions
There are no documented drug interactions with Trifexis®. Contact your veterinarian if your pet experiences any unusual reactions when different medications are given together.
Make sure to tell your veterinarian what other medication you are giving to your pet. Quite often your veterinarian may prescribe two different medications, and a drug interaction may be anticipated. In this case, your veterinarian may vary the dose and/or monitor your pet more closely.
Cautions
Treatment with fewer than three monthly doses after the last exposure to mosquitoes may not provide complete heartworm prevention.  Prior to administration of Trifexis®, dogs should be tested for existing heartworm infection. Use with caution in breeding females. The safe use of Trifexis® in breeding males has not been evaluated.
Use with caution in dogs with pre-existing epilepsy.
Allergic reactions to medications may occur. Be sure to inform VetSource and your veterinarian if your pet has any known drug sensitivities or allergies. If your pet displays symptoms of an allergic reaction, call your veterinarian immediately or go to a veterinary emergency clinic. Symptoms may include but are not limited to: swollen lips, tongue, face, airways; difficulty breathing; agitation; profuse salivation; vomiting; widespread hives and itching.
